Donn Alden Becklin

Donn Alden Becklin was born on May 3, 1930 in Cambridge, MN, the third of seven children to Paul Reuben and Harriet Becklin. Following his 1948 graduation from Cambridge High School, Donn was employed as a surveyor for Isanti County. In 1950 he joined the National Guard and a year later was put on active duty during the Korean War. After a move to NE Minneapolis, Donn worked for Midland Co-op. Then following in his oldest brother Bob's footsteps, he went to work as a postal clerk at the St. Paul Post Office. Later he rode the rails of the Milwaukee Road sorting mail between St. Paul and Chicago. However, without a doubt, the job that he enjoyed the most was working as the manager of the charcoal plant in Isanti for Royal Oak Industries from which he retired in 1992.

Donn was united in marriage to another Cambridge High School graduate, Ruth Stanius, on June 11, 1952. For their first ten years of married life, they lived in Minneapolis returning to Cambridge in 1962 to raise their two daughters and son in the same neighborhood where he had grown up.

Throughout his lifetime Donn was very involved, most often behind the scenes, in many areas of the Cambridge Lutheran Church and the Cambridge and Isanti communities.

Donn's faith in a loving God was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather. Donn is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth; children Vicki Ostrom and her husband Larry of Cambridge, Glori Sundberg and her husband Craig of Mahtomedi, Craig Becklin and his wife Janet of North Branch; six grandchildren Erik (20) and Bjork (17) Ostrom, Leif Sundberg (14), and Christopher (15), Matthew (12), and Megan (5) Becklin; siblings Robert (Joyce) Becklin, Gilbert (Angle) Becklin, Lynn (Lots) Becklin, Eric (Annie) Becklin, Eileen (George) Wilkie, and Galen (Karonne) Becklin; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends that loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Donn Becklin died on Monday, January 12, 2004 at the age of 73. He was a gentle soul and will be missed by all.

Interment is in the Cambridge Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
