Peter Halden


Last rites for Peter Halden were conducted on Wednesday, September 10 at 1:30 o'clock from the home and 2 o'clock from the Oxlip church with the Rev. W. W. Swanson officiating. Interment was in the Long Lake cemetery. The pallbearers were Andrew Peterson, Pete Lavander, John Lavander, A. J. Peterson, and Robert Peterson. The honorary bearers were Anton Anderson, C. E. Sjodin, J. T. Stone, Frank Weeks, Rudolph Ostrom, Albin Erickson, Albert Edling, Andrew Forsline, Tony Bergdahl, V. E. Ericson, and Floyd Linell.

Peter Halden was born February 4, 1861 to Per and Anna Pearson in Sweden. He came to the United States as a young man in 1882, settling in Bradford where has lived ever since. He was married in 1892 at Cambridge to Anna Juden who preceded him in death in January, 1933. Survivors are one daughter (Elsie) of Minneapolis, and four sons, Victor, Clarence and Henning of Minneapolis, and Emil of Shakopee; eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Stanius and one brother, Andrew Halden.

Mr. Halden helped organize the first cooperative store in Isanti over 40 years ago and since that time has been instrumental in the organization of every true cooperative enterprise in the county. He participated in the organization of the Spring Vale Mutual Fire Insurance Assn. And was treasurer until his passing. He helped organize the Isanti Cooperative Produce Assn. and the Isanti County Cooperative Oil Assn. And served on the board of the latter for nine years, until his retirement, when he was mad an honorary director of the board for the remainder of his life. Mr. Halden was active in the Liberal Movement for over 45 years and gave unstintingly of his time and money to the cooperative movement and the Liberal Cause and was an active member of every cooperative in Isanti County.

The high esteem in which Mr. Halden was held in the county was shown by the many beautiful floral contributions and the large gathering at the services.
