Thilda Olson

Thilda "Tillie" Dylia Olson, 99, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2004 at the Grandview Christian Home. She was born October 19, 1904 in Isanti County, MN one of seven children to Theodore (T.O) and Christine (Southerland) Olson. Tillie grew up in the Walbo area, attending the Walbo grade school and the Liberty school. She attended the Cambridge Lutheran Church and was confirmed in 1920 and was still a member.

Tillie began working at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1923 and was a chief operator. Her managers during her time at the phone company were H.E. Olson, Johnston, Carl Rosenvold, and Don R. Neher. In 1943 she transferred to California and worked for the Pacific Bell Telephone Company until 1963. Tillie found working for the telephone company to be very interesting and rewarding work. Her work took her to the Inglewood Airport, the USO in Hollywood, the Union Station and the Biltmore Hotel where she handled the long distance calls from a two position switchboard. She handled many service men's calls home to their families and found this to be very interesting and fun. She loved every minute of it. Retiring in 1963, she moved back to the home place west of Cambridge on Highway 95 and lived there until 1988. She then moved into a condominium at Eagle Manor on Birch Street in Cambridge with a beautiful porch facing east. Tillie thoroughly enjoyed her home and spent many hours on her porch with her flowers, bird watching and her many friends that would come to visit her. Tillie always loved people of all ages and enjoyed playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Olga Kotonias, Alma Rydeen, Selma Dahlman, Alice Halden, Adla Fornberg and brother Victor Olson.

She is survived by five nieces Muriel West of Bloomington, MN, Gertrude Naglich of Hibbing, Alice Mae Fariss of Houston, TX, Jean Nelson of Santa Rosa, CA, Christine Malosky of Superior, WI, and five nephews, Theodore Kotonias of Estero, FL, Johnny Kotonias of Los Angeles, CA, Paul Fornberg of Ellendale, MN, Tom Fornberg of Isanti and Peter Halden of Woodbury, cousins from California, Isanti, Minneapolis, northern Minnesota, and special cousin Verian and husband Johnny Anderson of Cambridge as well as many other relatives and friends.
